Watering Instructions for New Plants

Watering Wand Being Used to Water Summer Plants In Bloom

Watering & Warranty Information for New Plants

Proper watering will make a huge impact on the long-term health of new plants.

The following are general guidelines that will help you enjoy and maintain your investment. How often and how long you water will depend on your soil and other factors.

Year One  (Follow these instructions from Spring to Fall the first year)

  • Installation Day: Begin watering your newly installed plants as soon as possible. We recommend using a watering wand or open-ended hose (sprinklers and soaking hoses are not adequate for this phase of growth). Allow the water to soak in, then water again until the soil is thoroughly moistened.

  • Week One: Water plants daily or every other day. Just planted roots are only able to absorb soil moisture from a small area until they begin to grow.

  • Week Two Onward: Unless the weather is extremely hot and dry, you may be able to decrease watering frequency to two or three times per week until the fall begins

Years Two through Three

Water deeply only once or twice per week. Exactly how often and how long you water will depend on your soil and other conditions. *Don’t rely solely on rain.**

After Year Three

Properly planted and watered plants should be fairly well established and able to withstand a wider range of water conditions. Drought-tolerant may need no supplemental water, whereas shallow-rooted plants or plants with greater water needs may need weekly watering. Many plants, when selected for the conditions in your yard, may need watering only once or twice a month in dry weather.

Important Warranty Information

Trees and Shrubs are guaranteed for one year (12 months) from date of installation; insect and pet damage, ground fungus, irrigation problems and acts of nature are not covered. Please Note: labor will be invoiced to install plants under warranty.

EXCLUDES: Annuals, Perennials, Ornamental Grasses, Ground Cover, and Sod.

Newly installed plant material will need to be watered – DO NOT RELY SOLELY ON RAINFALL.  Day of Installation: Follow watering instructions provided.  One week after installation: water every one to two days as just planted roots are only to absorb soil moisture from soil.  Two weeks after installation water twice weekly using an open- ended hose running at moderate pressure, a thorough soaking will take from 20 seconds for small plants to 2-3 minutes for larger shrubs and trees.  Check soil moisture before watering.  Symptoms for over-watering and under-watering can look similar.
Please Note: Annuals may need daily watering.
