Pond plants are a great long-term solution to combat nuisance algae and provide a healthy pond environment. The addition of pond plants will decrease the amount of maintenance needed to keep your pond water clean.
The size of your pond will influence the number of plants it can accommodate. A general guideline is to have no more than 50-60% of the surface area covered with plants. This helps provide shade, reduces algae growth by limiting sunlight penetration, and creates a balanced ecosystem.
And remember– too many plants can cause oxygen deficiencies at night, especially if you have fish over 12” long.
