Five Great Ways to Get Ready For Fall

September 17, 2024 // By Shawnee Thomas

1- Fall Planting: September is an excellent time to plant perennials, shrubs, and trees. The cooler temperatures and increased rainfall help new plantings establish strong root systems before winter.

2- Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to your lawn and garden beds to provide essential nutrients as plants prepare for winter. This encourages healthy growth and better winter survival.

3 – Watering: As temperatures cool, adjust your watering schedule to match the changing needs of your plants. Water deeply but less frequently to encourage strong root growth.

4 – Hardscape Maintenance: Inspect your hardscape elements, such as patios, walkways, and retaining walls, for any damage that may have occurred during the summer. Repair or replace as needed.

5 – Plan for Fall Color: Consider adding fall-blooming plants like mums and ornamental grasses to your landscape for a pop of color as summer fades.
